Aura Hakuri

How do your tune into your creative channel?

Currently, I have needed to be surrounded by silence. I want to listen carefully, it's important to hear the smallest nuances.

How would you describe yourself as a creator?

Paradoxically I'm restless and calm at the same time. There is a lot of fire inside that pulls me forward but there is always water around me where I can swim and float.

What is your work process like?

My work process is very intuitive and difficult to define. I don't know where it starts and where it ends. I think it's connected to everything I do, from very mundane deeds to my dreams.

Where do you get ideas for your work?

I get my ideas from many sources. I like the idea that almost anything can be a starting point for a painting. It can be a memory or a dream. Often it's something I have read, seen, or heard that attracts me. Those impulses start to develop in my mind into something else or they kind of grow to the new direction. Then I paint them.

What fascinates you right now?

The Myth of Princess of Komodo, swimming in cold water, writing notes and dreams, joy, and laughter.

What have been important steps and happenings in your life and artistic path so far?

Graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, starting to perform with Linda (Granfors) and keeping on performing together, the births of my children, the moment when I stop fearing (especially ghosts).

Do you have certain people who have influenced you in particular?

All my loved ones.

Are there any artists you admire particularly and why?

I admire all the artists whose work process involves play, curiosity, fearlessness, and change.

What do you like about the home exhibition concept?

I think it's a wonderful concept! It's an intimate and interesting way to approach art.

What would you do if you wouldn't make art?

I might be a shepherd or a mermaid.

What do you dream about?

I would like to see the Atlantic. What other projects are you working on?

I'm working on my upcoming solo exhibition and Linda and Aura performance projects.
