The 9th edition of my home exhibition project is called Enigmatic and runs from Thursday May 19th to Sunday June 5th. The opening days are Wednesdays from 5-7 PM and Sundays from 1-5 PM.
I work intuitively and artists-based: I choose artists to my shows whose work I find interesting and alive. I always act upon my instincts when I select the artists for the shows. The process of curating the shows are totally non-linear, but the visceral feeling I get when I know who I want to invite to join, is always the same and I trust that feeling like no tomorrow.
Usually I have one artists in mind who I feel called to work with, and that is where the process starts. If the artists wants to collaborate, I continue the curation process from there. From here I go on an exploration to play around with different work that would fit the mood of the overall vision and feeling that I have for the show, or sometimes I ask the artists or other artists to recommend or suggest whose work they would like to be shown together with.
I begun working on this show about half a year ago. I wanted to work with Lassi Kontiainen and then I curated the rest of the artists one-by-one thereafter. I had this vision of a very expressive and bold undercurrent for this particular exhibition, which is also why I chose to call it Enigmatic - an illusive quality that intrigues but can't be fully defined. The artists who are participating work with themes related to the inner world and human experience, roots and rootlessness, sense of space, interconnectedness and co-existence, motherhood and reproduction in the times we live in.
