ipples is the 3rd edition of my home exhibition concept, in which I curate a group of artists who's way with material and who's voice I find intriguing in my apartment in Töölö. The exhibition will take place from November 20th to December 11th, 2019. Everyone is warmly welcome to come by and all the art works are for sale. The opening hours will be Wednesdays from 5pm to 8pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. The idea behind this edition was born from a wish to continue from where my previous exhibition left of and create a show, sort of a ripple effect in the for of a show with some of the artists I have already worked with, together with artists who's work I would love to have on my own walls, tables, shelves and floors. Artist featured are: Jasmin Anoschkin, Inka Bell, Hanna Hyy, Matias Liimatainen, Emma Luukkala, Jenni Rope, Kerttu Saali, Emma Sarpaniemi, Joel Slotte and Aki Turunen.
Lately I’ve been interested in what it means to be in our own power. How do we take agency over the story we create. How do we make sure that we are co-creating our story so that it is a reflection of what really matters to us? A story that feels meaningful to us and not one that is based on someone else’s wishes and hopes that have been projected onto us, creating what we think is our our point of view, but actually is not, which we then live out feeling underwhelmed. I see this happening every where today; people being separated from their own truth, feeling like something is off, but now knowing how to connect with what would be meaningful. I know the feeling, I struggle with the same thing.
So, Ripples is my quest to bring small drops of perspective, sensations and insight. The artists in the group might have quite a different way of illuminating their point of view with their chosen material, but they are all united by a dedication to a way of seeing that is distinctly their own and deliciously sharp in their own medium. Together they create an interesting tension and play around subjects such as empathy, intimacy, revenge, structure, space, matter, playfulness and sensorial experiences. We see archetypes of what is wrong in the world today, and we see pictures of togetherness and warmth.
Ripples is about how we are all, whether we like it or not, intertwined in this dance called life. I read a poem and it will initiate ripple effects of motions that leaves footsteps of emotions and thoughts behind. You see a work of art that speaks to you and it might change the way you see yourself and life around you. Your thoughts merge with mine and new ideas are born. Nowhere is this as apparent as in creative processes, art experiences and human interaction. Together we create the reality we see around us – what kind of ripples do you want to commit to create?
